L.A.C.E.R. Memory Wall
As we approach Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) celebration, we at L.A.C.E.R. Afterschool Programs are once again preparing to honor departed loved ones and celebrate their lives through our beautiful ofrenda that will be showcased at Dia de los Muertos at Hollywood Forever on October 28th, 2023.
L.A.C.E.R. MEMORY WALL
At L.A.C.E.R., we understand the profound significance of Dia de los Muertos and the comfort it brings to individuals and families as they remember those who have passed away. It is with this sentiment that we are reaching out to you, seeking your support in the form of a donation in memory of your loved one and a photo to be included in our altar.
The contributions we receive will be used to create a L.A.C.E.R. community altar that truly reflects the spirit and memory of those who are no longer with us. Your donation will support the important work we do at L.A.C.E.R. Afterschool Programs. Our organization is dedicated to providing a safe and nurturing environment for young minds to learn, grow, and thrive beyond school hours. By participating in our Dia de los Muertos project, you'll be directly impacting the lives of the students we serve while honoring and celebrating the memory of loved ones.
To honor your loved one in our altar, we kindly request the following details to be included with your $25 donation:
The name (and/or nickname) and dates of your loved one to be listed as part of the altar
A photograph of the departed loved one (optional) to be included and featured on our virtual memory wall.
Submit the required details to Diane Allen at DA@LACERstars.org
FOR QUESTIONS CALL DIANE ALLEN OR JACQUI BIERY AT (323) 957-6481.
We genuinely appreciate your consideration of this opportunity to commemorate your loved one's memory while supporting our mission. Your contribution will be acknowledged prominently in our display, and you're also welcome to visit our altar during the Hollywood Forever Cemetery Dia de los Muertos event to see firsthand the impact of your generosity.
Together, we can create a truly meaningful Dia de los Muertos Ofrendo that celebrates life, love, and cherished memories.
With heartfelt gratitude for your time, consideration, and support.
Your L.A.C.E.R. Family!

Year-End Campaign 2022
L.A.C.E.R. AFTERSCHOOL PROGRAMS CELEBRATE 27 YEARS OF SERVING THE YOUTH OF LOS ANGELES.
This year in celebration of our 27th Anniversary, we ask for your support for our Year-End Fundraiser Campaign to raise $80,000 by December 31st.
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR SUPPORT WE RAISED $26,264.49 !
Here are 4 ways your gift will make a considerable difference this year:
1. ARTS: Costumes
The L.A.C.E.R. performing arts programming features music and dance classes led by excellent teaching artists across our eight sites. Students learn, rehearse, and perform throughout the year in a wide range of shows at their school, in the community, in major venues, and in competitions, as well as in events organized for all the L.A.C.E.R. students across Los Angeles. We have a huge gap to cover the costumes for their performances each year. Help our students look their best in every performance.
2. ATHLETICS: Personalised Sports Jerseys
The middle school athletics program provides intramural team sports and competitions (equal and parallel) for girls and boys. We would love to provide the L.A.C.E.R. athletes sports jerseys that they can wear when they go off campus for a game at another L.A.C.E.R. site, and when they are on campus representing their school and the program. Help us bring a sense of pride to our student-athletes by providing sports jerseys.
3. ACADEMICS: Color Printers and Ink
L.A.C.E.R. provides access to tutoring and the homework help they need with space and supplies to work on school projects. For most students, L.A.C.E.R. is the only place where they have access to a computer, the internet, and a printer. However, our printers are out of date, and students would benefit greatly from a new color printer at each school site to produce high-quality colorful school projects. Help a student reach academic success with access to a color printer.
4. HEALTH AND WELLNESS: Water Coolers
All of our school sites have water fountains throughout the campus, few are actually working or safe to drink from. The L.A.C.E.R. programs offer a safe space for all, free classes, and a healthy snack - we'd also like to provide fresh cold water that our students feel safe to drink throughout the day. Help us provide students with fresh water to drink
LACER AFTERSCHOOL PROGRAMS is a 501(c)(3) organization [TAX ID 95-3890819].
All donations are tax-deductible to the fullest extent of the law.

STARFEST 2022 : In-Person Student Art Exhibit
ABOUT THE SHOW
This will be our first in-person Art Show in several years and our first at L.A.C.E.R.'s home, the historic Orchard Gables (built in 1904). The students from all eight sites have created art pieces in various mediums, including pencil, charcoal, pen and ink, acrylic, watercolor, graphic art, photography, sculptures, mixed media, and will feature select nichos from the LACER sculpture at the Day of the Dead Event at Hollywood Forever.
All of this is made possible through a multi-year gift from The Wilbur May Foundation. This philanthropic support allows the L.A.C.E.R. Afterschool Programs to make the arts an integral part of the after-school experience for thousands of students in Los Angeles. The Wilbur May Foundation support provides a minimum of 10,000 additional hours of arts instruction and performance time over five years across eight L.A.C.E.R. schools, providing an arts experience for more than 7,000 middle and high school youth.
Thank you also to our Giving Circle Members and all of our Starfest Sponsors for making this event possible.

(VIRTUAL) COFFEE WITH WILL
EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, WILL SEYMOUR will be sharing updates from the programs and the agency on how LACER Afterschool Programs has stepped up to meet the COVID-19 challenges to serve students and parents in our community.
The programs across the city continue to thrive through the pandemic and the services, resources, food, and care that LACER provides is just as important as it was before the pandemic began. We have a lot of innovative ways to close out the 2021-22 school year and the year to come.
We hope you can join in on the conversation. All this work is made possible by the gifts of resources and time from our Giving Circle Members, Community Partners, Board Members, Donors, Grantors, School Partners, Volunteers, Instructors, Staff, LAUSD/BTB, and Elected Officials.
There will be a Q&A session, so you can send your questions in advance, and we'll be sure to include it in our conversation. Send your question here!
BENEFIT PERFORMANCE: Sacred Fools Theater Company's "How We Got On"
The proceeds from a very special “Do (Pay) What You Can” Performance on Monday, Feb 7th 8pm will be donated to LACER Afterschool Programs.
ABOUT THE PERFORMANCE:
How We Got On by Idris Goodwin connects with everyone whether you rocked a Kangol in the 80s or not. This play is about thinking big when your surroundings are small. It's about finding your voice and the joy within yourself no matter your circumstances. This brilliant coming-of-age story is set in 1988 as Hip-Hop is blowing up. Those who came of age during this time will fall in love with the show from the first needle drop. Those that didn't will find that hip-hop culture lives within us all: Rich people. Poor. Handsome people. Ugly. Citizens. Immigrants. Everybody.
RUNTIME: 90 min - NO INTERMISSION

Artfest @ Fairfax High
An event sponsored by the City of West Hollywood, LACER’s Art Festival at Fairfax High school was an event where 21 students signed-up to enter their art submission in order to win a grand prize of $300.00. All students received all the necessary materials and supplies for their submission.
There were four (4) categories: Repurposed, 3-D, Mix medium, and painting. Students were gearing up to showcase their self-expressed artwork. The show day, which would have been run entirely by the LACER leadership, would have featured live performances from the LACER Rock Band, along with food and games.
We hope when the Covid-19 pandemic comes to an end, we can revisit this idea. The students were so excited to work on their art and looking forward to the event. Besides the display of their art and having judges come to look at their work, we were going to have outdoor activities. There would have been a virtual reality station, photo booth, live music by our Rock Band, corn in the hole game, and food and beverage for guest to enjoy. We wanted to really create an art festival ambiance for the students to enjoy.
Special appreciation for the LACER leadership, LACER staff, and students participating in the event on their team effort in planning all the event details.
